University of South Australia - AI for LIFE CRC Bid

AI for LIFE (Learning, Innovation and Future Education) is a CRC bid led by UniSA. If successful, it will address the impact of and implications for ubiquitous AI across Australia’s education and training system. The Centre’s mission is to ensure Australia’s education and training systems are AI ready.

Its services are structured across three core areas:

• Values-driven leadership – AI for LIFE is guided by core values: equity, trust, ethics, diversity, impact, stewardship and human-centred design. The CRC brings together large and small EdTech companies, education departments and VET providers to shape its research agenda. A strong interim board and experienced interim CEO are in place, with membership enquiries welcomed.
• Research and validation – Six research focus areas will be delivered across three programs devoted to learners, teachers and leaders. The CRC will validate the efficacy of AI-embedded products and services, and commercialise tools and techniques that emerge from its research. All research questions are sourced directly from industry and government stakeholders.
• AI adoption in education – AI for LIFE aims to reduce the administrative burden faced by teachers, allowing more time for classroom teaching. It supports the development of pedagogic practices and curriculum that improve learning outcomes. The CRC will ensure AI is applied with equity and ethics at front of mind, protecting identity and privacy while promoting critical thinking and moral reasoning.

AI for LIFE aligns with the UN’s sustainability goals and, if funded, will be the first CRC dedicated to Australia’s education sector. The sector contributes significantly to national wealth and is a major export earner through international education.
