MapAI is an Australian startup focused on making geospatial data accessible and actionable through conversational AI. Our solution allows users to interact with maps using natural language, simplifying the experience and improving usability.

We prioritise data security and integration with existing systems. MapAI keeps data onsite to support compliance and safety. Developed in collaboration with UNSW and FrontierSI, MapAI is built with a strong commitment to AI transparency. It delivers geographic insights for everyone, not just GIS experts.

Generative AI is changing how organisations manage and interpret data. However, current large language models (LLMs) lack basic geospatial reasoning and cannot perform geospatial analysis. MapAI addresses this gap.

Together, we created MapAI to improve AI’s ability to answer location-based questions. We work closely with businesses to support AI development and adoption by co-designing solutions that meet specific needs.

Our process starts with a workshop to understand your goals and identify common, high-value questions your users ask. We assess the data needed to answer these questions and define which queries the AI should and shouldn’t handle.

Using this input, we fine-tune MapAI, our B2B middleware platform, to deliver accurate, context-specific responses. MapAI integrates with your existing IT systems and powers a chatbot window within your interface. It processes natural language queries using a customised LLM, accesses your spatial data, and returns answers as text and map features in structured JSON format.

By embedding this capability into your systems, we help your teams, across operations, planning and leadership - interact naturally with complex location data. This improves decision-making and boosts efficiency.
