Away from Keyboard (AFK) Inc.

Away from Keyboard Inc. is an Australian registered charity working at the intersection of digital safety, child safeguarding, upstream harm prevention and ethical technology governance.

The organisation focuses on preventing technology facilitated harm before it occurs. This includes risks identified at design, procurement and implementation stages.

AFK works across two areas. The first is direct community support. This includes:

• trauma informed workshops for children and young people
• support programs for carers managing digital harm
• education for educators and communities on grooming, coercive control, scams and technology facilitated abuse.

This work is based on lived experience and focuses on safety, trust and connection as protective factors.

The second area is systems change. AFK identifies design risks, governance gaps and incentive structures that allow harm to occur.

Through Alt TAB, AFK provides a free AI enabled pre deployment ethics assessment. This helps organisations identify risks before releasing new technologies.

Alt TAB applies multiple Australian and international governance frameworks. It assesses risks including technology facilitated violence and cyber security. It provides jurisdiction aware recommendations to support responsible design and deployment.

AFK contributes to international standards and policy discussions on AI and safety. This includes participation in global forums and standards development focused on preventing harm and supporting safe technology use.

AFK supports organisations to adopt responsible technology practices. The focus is on prevention, accountability and safe outcomes.
